What is a floating desk?

The rise of co-working spaces and remote working has arrived. Flexibility is more essential than it has ever been before. More and more companies and organizations are either switching to co-working spaces or an open concept work environment involving floating desks. Floating desks are useful for multiple different purposes which are why companies are starting to switch over to this new way of working.

What is a floating desk?

Floating desks are a shared space of desks that anyone can use on any given day. Rather than having your assigned desk you can choose where you want to sit each day when you arrive at the office. The whole goal is to maximize space efficiency and lessen real estate. The flexibility floating desks bring have a huge impact on work productivity and employee innovation.

How does a floating desk work?

Find a desk. Plug in your laptop and get to work. There really isn't much to it. The concept is that you can sit by the window one day, or by a couch the next. Mixing up your work routine is critical for productivity.

Bookable meeting rooms

Now with all this free space you will be able to book more meeting rooms on a shorter notice. Most floating desk style workspaces are co-working. You pay a monthly fee for a vast variety of amenities like a kitchen and private conference rooms. But perhaps the most important thing is making global connections from everyone else in the same space as you.

What are the advantages of floating desks?

This all depends on your work style. Mostly beneficial for freelancers who may not be in an office 5 days a week but more so 2 or 3 times a week. It is a lot cheaper if you work with a few other people and work at some sort of co-working, floating desk situation. Having a private conference room whenever you want to meet clients is a huge bonus if you used to work strictly from home.
